Apollo,
I am running the dell switches with shoreline ip pbx on trango
broadband gear.
Here is my config below.
(internal lan)dell 3024-linux
box(site1/trango)su)1mb-link--10.9mile--link --to--tower on
hill----10.8mile-link-1mblink--(site2trango-su)--linux box-->dell
3024-(internal lan)
The dell switches are ok you do have a setting for multimedia apps etc but
you can't at least the last time i checked is set each port for qos.
What i did is use the leaf bearing firewall http://leaf.sourceforge.net/
Set it up using a old pc with say 128 or 256mb ram and format a 40mb fat
partition and voila you should be ready to go. The leaf firewall uses hard
drive only to boot the os up and loads it into ram. the config is fairly
easy if you know a bit of linux.
I was having some major problems before also with the voice calls etc. We
were having some major packet loss after fixing one of our antennaes. what
we have done essentially dedicated 256k for the voice calls. my voice switch
allows us to compress the call down to 32k per call or down to 8k if ir
really want to.
Hope this helps.
Raj

Subject: [BAWUG] Good 24-port MANAGED switch for under $500? For WLAN,
VoIP and QoS?
I found Dell PowerConnectTM 3024 24 Port 10/100 Ethernet + 2 Port Gigabit
Managed Ethernet Switch for $500.
Are there any lower priced managed switches in 24-port configuration? Any
used
ones I shoud look into?
My WLAN traffic mixed with several workstation traffic sometimes delays
voice
packets and that cuases garbled voice, I need to start doing QoS.
Features I need are VLAN (since I need to separate my VoIP trafic generated
by
my 3COM NBX100 IP PBX phone system), QoS management per port, QoS tagging.
Web-interface management would be great.
Yes, budget is super low, if I could get something for less than $500, that
would be great.
Thanx,
Apollo
