Antenna positioning is CRITICAL, you should have someone watching the signal level as you tune one end for max, then go to the opposite end, and tune again. Move very slowly... Finally return to the first site and do a final. This is the most you'll get. Also make sure you adjust in both horiz and vertical planes when doing this.

The way we do it, is to utilize someone looking at the signal meter and calling it out via a walkie-talkie.
In a marginal situation like you've obviously got, this is a must, you may pickup some speed this way.
And YES, a hotter signal is the best way to improve that thruput. An amp might be the ticket if this alignment procedure fails to improve speed for you.


 
A bit of a note, we have tried adjusting antenna aim and have moved both antenna's up 5 feet with no effect on speed, so I think we are ok as far as our antenna's go.
 
If anyone can comment on which they think would be a better solution, or perhaps offer another solution, I would appreciate it greatly.
