Folks, Does anyone have recommendations for an AP/router/print server (AP/R/P) they like, which is currently available?
At home, I've been happy with an SMC WBR7004 for the past couple of years. I especially like the SMC's parallel printer port, which allows me to print to my old, bullet-proof QMS 825 printer from my Mac without powering up a desktop computer. However, the SMC is an old unit limited to 40-bit WEP, and I'd eventually like to upgrade. The issue is that I don't see much in the way of AP/R/P combos anymore, and I'd like to avoid adding a dedicated print server gizmo if possible. I've tried the Siemens 2624 AP/R/P box, but so far it has exhibited inconsistent latency from one moment to the next. SSH sessions sometimes have imperceptible delay, but it's frequently close to a second, whether I'm using wireless or wired access. Pumping MTR traffic helps, apparently overcoming some packet-bunching phenomenon.
