For those Wi-Fi enthusiasts living in Alameda, there's a new sub-group of the SF based groups now, which aims to "create a free wireless backbone which spans the island of Alameda, for use in distributing internet/gaming/filesharing/video conferencing/telephony/anything you can think of, wirelessly. Long term: Link Alameda into Oakland Hills/San Francisco/Bay Area Research Wireless Network"

So if you live/work in Alameda, or in a place with a Line of Sight to Alameda, such as the Oakland hills or a high point in SF, there's a small website at http://sfwireless.net/moin/AlamedaWireless which mainly points to the mailing list http://lists.sfwireless.net/listinfo/alameda for people to coordinate and get involved.

Thanks go to Jason Luther and Dan Augustine for donating the server space and getting the mailing list going.
