Get a DC ammeter (milliammeter in this case) and insert it in series with the center lead of the round barrel plug going to the AP.
If you don't know what I am talking about, and you already fried an AP, then why not just use these figures that I have already measured on mine as a reference:


Voltage Current
15V 220-300 ma
12V 260-320 ma
9V 300-400 ma
7V 390-500 ma
5V 520-680 ma
4.5V 550-700 ma and the AP gets unstable, actually crashing Netstumbler on an Orinoco card.
