Hi BAWUGers.. I got a call from my dad tonight asking for advice on broadband in Park City, Utah. Like many places (my own town of Campbell CA included) AT&T/Comcast cable modems are perpetually just over the Ver^H^H^Hhorizon and there's no DSL or other hardline options to speak of, even though they laid fiber up his street last year.
However -- He got a letter announcing service availability of fixed wireless service from a company called "Exolo", at 256k up / 256 down. Their web site is http://www.exolo.com, and http://www.exolo.com/wireless.asp has a picture that looks uncannily like the one at http://www.hyperlinktech.com/web/wl16p_usb.php but not much else by way of hard information about their service. Has anybody heard of these guys? DSLreports.com doesn't list them in their reviews section and even google's got precious little dirt. I'm mainly curious about how their 'user experience' is, but it'd also be neat to know if they're using 802.11b that's arbitrarily rate-limited at 256k or if their CPE merely happen to look a whole lot like 2.4G outdoor patch antennas.. I'll probably advise him to give it a shot regardless, but I'd love to hear any reports about their WISP service, good or bad. -- Eric Sorenson - EXPLOSIVE Networking - http://explosive.net -- general wireless list, a bawug thing <http://www.bawug.org/> [un]subscribe: http://lists.bawug.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless
