The lack of tools for version 2.6 of the WAP11 make troubleshooting
difficult. Taking a few snapshots of the status html page of the WAP11 has
helped me get a sense of what is going wrong with WAP11's. Dump the counts
of good and failed send and receive packets from several snapshots into a
spreadsheet. Calculate the percentage of dropped packets. This should tell
you if there are competing transmitters (dropped send packets) or if the
recieve signal is just too weak (dropped receive packets). Another indirect
signal strength measure is to swing your directional antenna left and right
until pings time out. Comparing this angle to the antenna performance chart
will give you an idea of your signal margin. Thirdly, you could move one of
your client WAP11 close to the AP, ping it from your AP, and walk it down
the street to see where the signal becomes inadequate.

Subject: [BAWUG] Major Network Problems after good performance for over
1 year

Hi everyone,

My network is experiencing large problems. I've been able to re-establish
signal to one client but the other 3 are still not working right or are
down.

The network ran fine for over 1 year without any major problems.

Initially I though my Linksys Signal Booster was damaged since I could get
some signal without it being connected. However the signal was too weak to
use but attaching a new signal booster didn't work.

So I replaced the radio with a WAP11 v2.6. and I was able to get one client
back on but that WAP11 v2.6 has no useful tools like the v1.1.

My AP is running in Access Point mode and I have 4 WAP11 v2.2 running in
client mode connecting to it.

Do you guys think my problem is the Linksys equipment?

I was thinking of getting a better AP for my end. Something like Cisco or
Orinoco.

Any suggestions?

thanks

-Stefan
