Also of note to BAWUGgers from Craig's List, this Gracenet meeting Tues. that references building "democratic" wireless networks.
Raines 3 -- 7/15: Gracenet meeting (Zeum, Howard and 4th) Reply to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jul 10th In the constant battle between charging for knowledge versus sharing it freely, our next speaker, Lauren Gelman, Assistant Director of Stanford Law School's Center for Internet and Society, is taking sides to "Reclaim the Public Domain" - the subject of her talk at our next Gracenet meeting, Tuesday, July 15, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Zeum, Howard and 4th Streets, San Francisco. Bring $15 if youd like a meal and the meeting; $10 for just the meeting. Gelman focuses on how to bring democratic values to the online world, which includes building democratic wireless networks - as opposed to networks that just serve the few who can afford them. She used to work as Public Policy Director for the Electronic Frontier Foundation - our ACLU for citizens of the Internet -- and was Associate Director of Public Policy for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the largest organization for computer scientists in the world. She's a lawyer, too (who would have guessed?) and rode the dotcom wave as corporate counsel for public policy at RealNames. Bring a friend; we're opening this meeting to guys as well - and RSVP to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you'd like dinner (we'll have vegetarian food as well). it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests this is in or around Zeum, Howard and 4th This posting can be found at: http://www.craigslist.org/tce/13411354.html -- general wireless list, a bawug thing <http://www.bawug.org/> [un]subscribe: http://lists.bawug.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless
