What PCMCIA WI-Fi card is recommended for versatility, reliability, and
cost?

I want to use this to find Hot Spots, use the Internet, AND LEARN.

Been a lurker too long and I want to participate.

Are there some cards that have free software available to use for testing
and exploring?
Do some support API's so that I could write some of my own applets?
Do some support downloaded updates?

I live in Los Altos, but go to San Francisco (Marina area) on a regular
basis and I go to Newport Beach now and then (like in 2 weeks).

Do I need to support 802.11g and 802.11b?

There seem to be a lot of choices and I'd like to hear what you
knowledgeable folks think.

I use to like Metracom/Ricochett. Are we heading that way with Wi-Fi?

Pax et bene,

Walt
