Information regarding the WiFi sharing plan (specifically regarding
customer-hosted access points) just went online yesterday at
<http://www.sonic.net/hotspots/hosting/>. Please note that our VPN
concentrator is still still being deployed[1], so there will be
some intermittent outages while our operations staff tunes in some of the
finer points. This would result in some brief periods of time when folks
would be able to connect to your AP but not be able to authenticate through
for proper use.

Information for using a Sonic.net Hotspots AP can be found at the captive
portal page, viewable at <http://www.sonic.net/support/hotspotportal/>.
Basically customers will need to establish a VPN tunnel through which they
authenticate. This provides a level of security for both the wireless user
and the host (by isolating the WiFi user's traffic), and prevents folks that
are not Sonic.net customers from leeching away the host's DSL bandwidth.
Bandwidth capping is available on request for hosts that want to ensure that
they don't get too hammered by wireless passers-by.
