I am speaking tonight at the MIT Wireless Forum (http://www.mitwf.org),
one of three speakers. The topic of the night is the MIT RoofNet project,
protocols, and software. I am to present the current 'state of the art' in
such ad-hoc mesh networks (which term to use, grid or mesh?). I have done
research on the 'net but could use some clarification and details here,
and maybe pick up anything I have overlooked. So I'd like to know the
existance, status, URL, and technical/operational notes on networks of the
following type(s):

- ad-hoc mesh/grid networks of 6 or more nodes that advanced beyond the
planning stage. If these never reached operational status, or were removed
from operational status, what were the reasons?

- greatest interest is in networks that use software and protocols that
are 'open' in some sense of the word, such as those based on MITRE's
MobileMesh software.

- networks utilizing consumer-grade 802.11{a,b,g} equipment

- community/free networks are personally my greatest concern, but I'd also
like to know of story on commercial WISPs as well.

Types type of technical info I am most interested in:

- software compilation / installation problems
- scalability issues
- link 'flapping'
- problems with 'bandwidth hogs'

Respond to this to me privately or on this mailing list, but please do so
very soon. That is, before 3PM PST. If responding in private and you wish
some part of the information you give to remain private, please indicate
exactly what is to remain private.

Thanks much!
