I'd agree that Panasonic 2.4 GHz cordless are crap, but I've got 2 900 MHz ones, and
they're actually really good.  Incredibly hard to find these days.  When Buy.com had 
one
on closeout, with a 2nd keypad, answering machine, and full-duplex speakerphone, I
jumped on it.  :-).
