I'm a wireless newbie. Just for kicks, my friend and I are going to try to make a connection between Bernal Heights and Alameda. We'd like to be running some software that'll tell us the bandwidth we're able to achieve, signal to noise ratio, packet loss, etc. This is the first distance attempt we've tried and we're not sure what software's available for telling us the quality of our connection.
Do any of you have a standard test suite that you run when testing new/distant connections?
I'll likely be running a Debian/Woody box and my friend will likely be running Windows 2K or XP.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Best regards,
Eric.
