As the owner of all of the DarkerSun access points in the Berkeley area, I
can provide some data and perspective as to what the Marina is seeing:

1) I noticed the the Berkeley marina SSIDs showing up about 2 weeks ago..

2) All of my Berkeley AP's have been in place for over a year now.. We
provide broadband internet to the berkeley and Oakland area.

3) The APs consist of 14db 90 degree Maxrad sectors setup with a downtilt
pointed at the mid-flats of the Berkeley Oakland area. We currently have 6
high level APs in operation, they are fed at. Our customers use 14db panels
to connect into the sectors from downtown, and the hills. All of the APs are
located on tower sites atop the Berkeley hills.

4) I am surprised to hear that the Berkeley marina operation is suddenly
having trouble, since our system has been running from well before the
Berkeley marina went on the air so you have been receiving the same basic
level of packet traffic from our network since day 1, and your access point
is located about 6 miles away from our closet AP (although it is a perfect
line of sight)

5) What I would suggest if you want to get the least amount of packet
traffic from my operation is to run on channel 6 in vertical polarization or
on channel 1 or 11 in horizontal polarization. Channels 1 and 6 have
Vertical sectors that can see the Marina, and Channel 6 has a horizontal 24
db dish pointed torward Angel Island. Cross polizarization should get me our
of your hair. Also, since 6 is a 24db horizontal aimed above you, it should
be pretty quiet.

7) Give me a call if you want to talk more about it.. (510) 207-0000

Regards,
        Peter Kranz (AD6SG)
