I have been using a BenQ AWL700 wireless router for
the last few months. I only have a tower PC so until now I havent been able to
wire up to my living room modem to check the wired vs wireless performance. The
network topology is as follows:
Cable modem --> AWL 700 ---> 2 Tower
PCs
PC1 - AWL300 (USB adapter)
PC2 - Linksys 54g (PCI adapter)
The problems I suffered were as
follows:
* Over 1000ms ping every 60 seconds (without fail)
on both PCs.
* MSN messenger disconnects the PC from the router
(probably caused a reboot).
* eMule returns "LOWID client" and "leeching" error
messages.
I wasnt sure if these were wlan or router or
modem based problems. So I moved my PC into the lounge today. It appears the
modem is fine once I cable directly into it. However the same performance issues
occur when I cable through the router.
So I have come to the conclusion that the BenQ
AWL700 is a piece of shit and I recommend all of you to steer well clear of
these products.
The reason I post this before I buy a better
product is to ask why these performance issues have reared their ugly head and
what you guys would advise as a good replacement?
I notice BenQ have removed their wireless products
from manufacture because of their support requirements.
Cheers,
Simmo
