You have also to adjust the location of the pickup antenna in the can.
Also the can radius maybe not correct for 5.3 GHz causing that  the 
wave pattern in the can is in the wrong mode.
The can works as a waveguide.

Wireless LANs for the this frequency range  overlap  partly
the 5650 -5925 MHz  ham radio band so look for those designs

Has anyone built or run across info on a 5 Ghz homebuilt antenna?

In theory, you could construct a 5.3 Ghz "cantenna" by adjusting the
pick up element lengths of the 2.4 Ghz model to the shorter wavelength. 
  Has anyone tried this one?
