A fellow I know was having trouble connecting his PowerBook G4
w/Airport (non-Extreme model) to the public lib's 3COM 3CRWE60092A
a.k.a. "3Com 11 Mbps Wireless LAN Access Point 6000". He could see
the AP in the Airport menu, but when he selected the network, he got
a profoundly vague error message about having trouble connecting. The
password was confirmed, several times by several people there, with
no joy.

In the documentation handed to him, Macs are not mentioned, but being
an 802.11b devices, shouldn't this be a slam-dunk?

Other have mentioned that there may be some issues with something
called "short RF preamble".

Any help decyphering this situation (such that the library IT person
can understand it) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave
