Only the 1st-gen Atheros chipset was unable to tune the upper 5GHz band(s).

Everything since has been good-to-go (well, except the new 2.4GHz-only stuff, but I digress.)

SMC released the SMC2512W-AG card in January. 100mw on a,b,g. It has two
MMCX connectors. Is one of these for 802.11a? Assuming that it is, this
would mean that this card is capable of using one or both of the 802.11a
bands that allow an external antenna. I remember reading that the Atheros
chipset was only able to use the lower of the three bands, which required
an integral antenna. Has Atheros come out with a better chipset which SMC
is uisng, or is SMC using some other chipset in this unit? If so, which,
and are Linux/BSD drivers available?
