Hello Carmel,

Off the shelf, yes. But, not sure what your budget is for
equipment and labor (folks never seem to remember this one). Just tried
to setup repeating with 2 Linksys WAP11 v2.8 and failed. Tried with 2
Cisco 350, and it worked like a champ. In the past, I flashed RG-1000s
with the Karlnet firmware to make one a DHCP client, and then did a
crossover to a regular AP RG. Seems like a ghetto setup compared to the
Cisco repeating, I think the 1100 and 1200 do the same. The 350
repeating was seamless in roaming (not a single ping missed or
increased) with static WEP. If you want to save money, buy Cisco 350s
off eBay for under $300. I've used Dlink's DWL-900AP+ and they work OK,
but I wouldn't trust them in a commercial or heavy usage network.

Good luck,
-Ben

Subject: [BAWUG] Is there AP that is also repeater at the same time?

I am trying to figure out my project of 2 buildings with 4 access points
for about 50 users. Budget is a HUGE concern.

Is there access point (802.11B) that can act as an AP and a repeater? I
would have 4 access points with big omnidirectional antennas attached to
opposite corners of the roofs and and one of them would have connectionc
to captive portal server.
I would like to stick to off-the-shelf hardware, but do not mind hacked
firmware. I just want my volunteers to be able to do maintenance without
me.
BTW, I have tons of those SBC wireless access points on channel 6, I
would like to keep mine on 11 Thanks, Apollo
