Im a speakeasy customer on the west coast and for some time now they have been running this promo service if you want to call it that. Well I wanted to ask you what you guys thought of this and get some opinion and see if you guys actually think its worth even bothering.
Well any way here it is they have what they are labeling WiFi NetShare allows the "tech savvy speak easy DSL member" to offer neighbors the "new wifi revolution". Can you smell the marketing hype already? Heh any way I go on. Basically they get wireless broadband of course at the speeds you set and I as a customer get reduced monthly fees. Let me quote the speakeasy learn more page: How Does NetShare Work? Turn your personal broadband DSL connection into a shared WiFi network. By doing so, your neighbors get broadband speeds, email and more (try backup dialup, news and excellent add-ons such as Rhapsody Radio Plus)! You're the administrator As the Admin, you help your customer with set up and select the monthly service fees for your customers. Speakeasy handles the billing, which includes crediting your account each month for 50% of the basic customer fees! They save money, you save money. Your neighbors are your customers The NetShare customers you sign up benefit by experiencing Speakeasy's broadband services at a reduced cost. And they're eligible to take advantage of any special add-on services available only to Speakeasy customers. Of course, they also get that amazing Speakeasy customer service that you're already familiar with. ---------------------------------------- Now from the FAQ is where this gets interesting: ---------------------------------------- - Who sets the NetShare customer pricing? We put the power in your hands! As the Admin, you can select any retail price from $20 to $50, in $5 increments, and from $60 to $100 in $10 increments. You can modify Customer pricing at any time, but it will only apply to NEW customers you sign up after you make the pricing change. - What support will Speakeasy provide ? What support will I need to provide ? Speakeasy provides support for the following NetShare Customer issues: Billing and invoice questions (not related to pricing) Technical questions or issues regarding email, and dialup. As the Admin, it is your responsibility to provide support for: Customer support: for initial setup, signup and troubleshooting. Speakeasy will work with you to resolve issues related to circuit connectivity, and will forward any technical issue communicated by a NetShare Customer to you. You can then work with the Customer to resolve the issue in a diligent fashion. You are also responsible for the security and integrity of their shared network. Speakeasy may recommend, but is not responsible for enforcing specific network security measures. - I signed up for NetShare. Now, where should I advertise? It's totally up to you! First decide: Who do you want to share your connection with? If the answer is all your neighbors, you might want to try posting a flyer or two around your neighborhood, or in your apartment building. If the answer is just a few friends nearby, then a targeted email with the NetShare info would be a better approach. Please remember that when you advertise you are, by proxy, representing Speakeasy, Inc, and we'd ask that you do so in a respectful manner. ---------------------------------------- If you guys want I can post the whole FAQ since its in the members are of speakeasy if you guys are interested or wana know more... Honestly I think it's a cool idea that a ISP is actually opening up to such things... I have been with speakeasy for many years and they are like a rock and all ways doing things to make us the customer happy and think that this is a great step for us WiFi Geeks... - Scott _______________________________________________ BAWUG's general wireless chat mailing list [unsubscribe] http://lists.bawug.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless
