FYI, a few people have been continuing to hack away at the Proxim 8571 we
took apart here http://socalfreenet.org/proxim8571. The comments attached to
that page have the details, but recent progress includes finding a serial
port on the board and, with the help of a TTL to RS-232 converter chip,
watching the boot info go by. Next step is to try and install mips Linux...

If this works, it will drop the price of an 802.11a point to point link to
$168 - for both ends, in outdoor boxes, including panel antennas!  (See
www.socalfreenet.org/80211arelayparts).
