I know, from my own experience, many of us can provide pretty good free

Our limitation is 4 watts. Cell phone companies regulary blast at 1500 watts.

We need publicize the fact that we could provide low/zero cost
Internet access for everyone if it were not for the arcane regulatory restictions of
the FCC.

I'm pretty sure the City of San Fancisco, for example, would stand behind us if we told them
we could provide a free community service (Internet access) if only we were allowed to increase the power
of our trancievers by X.

Have you tried better radio gear and a good antenna? In the 4+ years I've been doing this I have never felt limited by the current power limits, in fact it forces people to use better designs with better receive strength and focus the energy with directional antennas where needed. All good things as more people take advantage of this technology.

Even if you put 10W on your roof you will need a good antenna to hear the client or up client power too. People with laptops will not like how fast a battery drains at 10W, not to mention too much energy too close to the body.

What I would really like to see for the FCC is more spectrum instead of more power.

Cliff
