Cellular/WiFi Convergence: Enabling the next growth phase in the mobile industry, by Ken Kolderup, VP Mktg, Kineto Wireless As mobile subscriber penetration reaches saturation, mobile carriers are scrambling to identify their next major source of revenue growth. By far, their largest opportunity is in convincing subscribers to begin using their mobile phone as their main phone not only when away, but at home and the office as well. When surveyed, more than 50% of subscribers are looking to make this transistion but do not because of quality and cost concerns relative to landline voice services. Now, with the upcoming availability of Mobile over WLAN solutions, carriers will be able to address subscriber cost and performance concerns and accelerate the shift toward mobile service.
