T1s are really not that expansive these days, since Covad can
provision them over HDSL and terminate them in special cards in
their DSLAMS, rather than having to buy a HICAP port from P*B.
We're not quite as far from the CO as you, but we're well outside
normal DSL range; as I understand it HDSL isn't subject to the
same distance limitations because they can use T1-style repeaters 
along the line path.

At $500/mo (what we're paying Speakeasy), if you can find a
neighbor or two within 802.11-shot to share the monthlies, you
could get yourself a lot more reliable connection than a 
multihop wireless uplink for not too much $ .. Something to think about,
at least.
