Marlon,
I have seen a flurry of activities getting started. Discussions on the
best ways to organize the WISP industry, ways to synergize with FCC and
FEMA efforts and also a bunch of volunteers ready to be in the disaster
areas.
All of this is good signs. In order to add to the momentum, we would
like to pledge 50 XO and 50 XO2 radios. So people can start planning
their activities knowing that this equipment will be available (through
one of our distributors).
Hopefully this helps.
With best regards,

Thanks Nimesh!
I know Joe. Mac Dearman is down there too. Things are not looking good
at
this time.
WISPA is officially working to co-ordinate some kind of help for these
guys.
At this point we don't know what people are in need of though. And
until we
can get a handle on that it's a bit hard to do too much.
I think it wise to get equipment moving to the area. Whether it'll be
purchased via insurance/disaster funds or donated is anyone's guess at
this
time but at least it'll be close by when someone down there can identify
a
way to actually deploy it.
I'm guessing much of the existing gear will have been up high and
therefore
is probably usable yet. We just have to figure out how to power it.
Again,
only time will tell though.
From what I saw on the news last night it sounds like the most critical
need
right now is water and guns! Not necessarily in that order.
Anyhow, I've cc'd the wispa board on this. Rick Harnish is heading up
the
effort so he'll likely be in touch with you guys.
thanks so very much!
P.S. I guess now we'll see if the rest of the world will help us as
much as
we always help them.

Thanks Marlon. We are interested to help and can provide some wireless
equipment. Just yesterday I had sent out a few emails to get the word
out. At the Tsunami time this had proven very valuable and Red Cross HQ
had very quickly become connected in Aceh. Please have people get in
touch with our David Wilson.
Ps. I had exchanged a couple of emails with Joe Laura. His house is
under water and I am sure the whole WISP network must be gone too. He
estimates that he can't return to his home in New Orleans for 3-4
months.

Subject: [WISPA] Re: [equipment-l] Katrina - HELP
Its a pretty bad situation all the way around. I am gonna keep this
short
and to the point - - All the local Churches in the area have taken on
the
job of providing these evacuees with food, water, shelter (to complete
occupancy) medicine, health care....etc and are also feeding all the
evacuees who are hungry and/or in need at the hotels/motels. I slipped
in
to one of the local hotels here in Rayville and these are the scenes
that
I saw first hand :
http://65.82.69.13/photo/explorer.php?folder=Evacuees/
It looks like a family reunion, but remember this is 250 miles North
of
NOLA. It is a free hamburger meal at the hotel put on by a local bank
and
a Church. This was what we call "supper" and is the evening meal.
There
was Dinner (lunch for you Yanks) and Breakfast (surely thats the
same)
put on bu other local Churches. These meals will go on for as long
(months?) as needed.
Jim Patient was the first to send email yesterday and ask if I knew
anyone
who needed $$$ as there is usually a farm full of people here fleeing
different hurricanes across the deep Souths coasts - - I have no one
on my
place, but the need is over whelming everywhere - - - so anyone who
has
the means and wants to help you can send money to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (paypal)
I will donate every cent to different Churches that are feeding all
these
people and will do it with the name of the list that donates the money
- -
be it WISPA, Judds list etc....... make your designation and I will
see
to it that there is an acknowledgment to the list daddy who can post
it at
there designated time. The need is unreal - - the time to help is now.
These folks left with the clothes on there backs and a tank full of
$2.26
gallon gas. Hotel rent per night is $56.75 and they arent gonna last
long.
They have no jobs, no money and no home to go home to and gas rose to
$2.89 today. They are just like you and I - - - - work for a living
and
caught in the worst bind of a life time with their families in tow.
To be sure - - any of you who know me know that I am a "straight up"
guy.
There is no plan of deceit or misappropriation of funds. I assure you
that every cent that is donated to my PayPal account will go to the
needs
of the evacuees. If it is possible I will match it cent for
cent - - - - - - - I am already way ahead.
Thanks from the bottom of my heart as you choose to help these folks.
I
talked with a bunch of evacuees this evening and their outlook is
great,
but maybe its just not realistic. They are down - - - just not out
yet!!

This brings home the potential of Mother Nature's destrutive force.
Indonesia and India were hit by the tsunami last year and now Katrina
brings
the destruction to our homeland.
Pray for those who have no hope. Pray for those who have lost their

Pray for our government to step up with some backbone to help these

Mac, Johnny O, and others,
I don't know about the rest of us, but I'm going nuts sitting here
doing
nothing. I made a donation to Samaritan's Purse for their relief
efforts,
but I
don't know what else I can do.
Any ideas?
