I don't think I'd use it for an inline splice
personally.
A Short Cat5 cable is fixed to one side of the
device.

Yes they work well.
ONly one thing... The Bulkhead Nut looks
identicle to the Nut for the other type of Ethernet connectors that are
standard for Rootennas. (The ones the cable just goes through and rubbers
around it.). They are NOT the same NUT! IF you get the NUTs confused, it
strips, and when you go to turn tighted the Bulk head nut, it slips and
rotates. When you use the correct NUT, it workds well and is
snug.
