It is really disappointing and sad. Stonebridge runs a good-sized
Alvarion network and I've met Stephen on a number of occasions. I always
liked his energy and enthusiasm. I hate it for his community, employees,
and his family.

But also, unfortunately, it is a black eye for the WISP space. He was
the first WISP to earn a RUS loan, so his effort was quite visible
within the USDA. I had already been personally told that the RUS was a
bit shy and tentative about the WISP space, being so used to funding old
local telcos. Hopefully, it does not engender a guilty-by-association
opinion of the WISP market. This is all why WISPA's Code of Ethics
should be well-understood and adhered to by all WISPA members and
supporting vendors. It is more important than ever that WISPs abide by
the FCC rules, OSHA regs (for climbers), etc.

WISPs cannot give the feds reasons to think efforts on their behalf are
wasted or abused, i.e. RUS grants, USF considerations, new spectrum
allocation, etc.

And I can tell you for a fact, there is more coming.

People don't seem to understand if they have this RUS
money, they should probably NOT be one of their
biggest vendors.

IE, a wireless broadband company that buys their
widgets from themselfs......
