Subject: RE: [WISPA] alternative for Alvarion VL lightning protector

Mario,
I see a couple of critical differences between the recommended lightning
arrestors (Transtector ALPU-ALVR and Polyphaser IX-ALVR) and the
Altelicon unit to which you linked below.

First, the Altelicon unit, like the Transtector ALPU-TSU that it intends
to be an alternative to, is designed to protect the Ethernet
communication pairs and 48 VDC power. VL, however, operates at 54 VDC.
The ALPU-ALVR is designed to support and this higher operating voltage.
The ALPU-TSU supports a service voltage of 48 VDC. Also, the ALPU-ALVR
protects the LED signal wire and Reset wire.

Additionally, the ALPU-ALVR supports the use of shielded CAT-5, a
requirement for VL. The unit below does not appear to have a connection
for the cable shield drain wire.

Thanks,

Subject: [WISPA] alternative for Alvarion VL lightning protector

Hi,
Has anyone found a low cost alternative for lightning protectors for

the Alvarion VL equipment? Transtector and Polyphaser protectors are in

the $100+ range.
    Has anyone tried this one?

    Thank in advance.

Mario
