I half expect that the whole speed of light latency issue will be eliminated sometime in my lifetime - that is, instantaneous communication between any two points with no meaningful delay.
Unfortunately, when it happens, I suspect that those of us in the business of putting up infrastructure to carry bits to customers will be out a job - as I suspect the solution will be a pair of entangled particles which will pass data equally well across the universe as across the street. At which point, the ISP's will be the people with a BIG warehouse somewhere holding one end of each entangled particle pair and routing between them.
