WISPA BOARD OF DIRECTORS SPECIAL ELECTION ANNOUNCEMENT In accordance with WISPA's Bylaws, the WISPA Board of Directors recently voted to expand the size of the Board of Directors. The number of Directors will be increased to nine, up from the current seven Directors. This is an announcement of a Special Election to elect two new Directors as well as to fill the one current vacant Director position on the Board. A total of three new Directors will be elected. WISPA is fortunate to have five excellent candidates who are willing to step up and serve as WISPA Directors. They are (alphabetically) Dennis Burgess of Link Technologies, Inc., Jeff Crews of Eastern Oregon Net, Inc., Butch Evans of Butch Evans Consulting, Frank Muto of Secure Email Plus and Michael Steed of Star Wireless/InterStar Communications. The information that each candidate has submitted about themselves has been posted to the following web page <http://nominations.wispa.org/>. WISPA invites all members to review this candidate information. Public discussion of the candidates positions and questions about the challenges facing WISPA in the weeks and months ahead are absolutely appropriate and are invited on the Members listserv ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).
The role of WISPA Director is much more than simply a symbolic one. WISPA's Directors contribute a significant amount of unpaid, personal time each month not simply "setting policy" but also working to successfully run the organization and advance the interests of the members who make up WISPA. Again, in accordance with WISPA's Bylaws, WISPA's Nominating Committee, made up of volunteer members Tim Harris, Marlon Schaffer, Dan Lubar and Mac Dearman have examined the qualifications of all five candidates and found all of them qualified to serve as Directors. WISPA's Bylaws require an appropriate announcement period plus additional time for WISPA members to examine the candidates qualifications and positions on the issues. The announcement and candidate review periods begin now. You may cast your vote anytime between October 3rd and October 17th. If you change your mind after you vote, you may go back and change your vote anytime up until the close of voting on October 17th. The Board has determined that all WISPA members who were shown as "active" as of September 2nd are qualified to vote. All qualified members should receive their ballot via email shortly before the voting period begins on October 3rd. Serving as a volunteer Director for WISPA is a challenging and often thankless job - but it is a very important and a very satisfying job. Please be sure to do your part as a WISPA member. Examine the qualifications of our fine candidates. Contribute to our discussion of the issues that face the wireless Internet service provider industry. Last but not least, be sure that you cast your vote for your choice of the new Directors who will help lead us forward. Thank-you.
