I have a Cutler Hammer cvl 50 at my datacenter. http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Markets/Electrical/Products/PowerQualityManagement/TransientVoltageSurgeSuppression/LightCommercialSurgeProtectionCVL/index.htm
No idea what's at home. Just two little breaker looking things in the panel that have an LED and a label that say protection. I think you can get these at the big box hardware stores if you have a standard breaker style. In either case, they were obtained and installed by an electrician, and I'm not sure where he got them.
