I have a 10'red balloon that we used to float a few years back for tower siting purposes.
I wasn't able get too much equipment on that balloon and expect it to float. I tried it with an old map2 with rubber ducky and cat5 as the line and the balloon had a hard time rising. The calculation is 1 gram of weight to 1 liter of helium. You have to take into consideration the weight of the balloon and the weight of the rope. Cat is heavier than tether line. Good news is, a set of binoculars lets you at least spot it which is what we ended up doing.
