Perhaps a larger problem is having the copper cable run down the leg. I had a tower with a 10' standoff and the ethernet ports were routinely fried - with lightning protection. I put a switch on to take the hits until getting fiber run up the leg whcih cured the issue. At the same time, I moved the equipment off the stand off and onto the leg but never had an issue. -RickG
