I made mine from a cable winch. Removed the cable, put some rosin on the hub, wrapped the rope around it 3 times and worked like a charm. Just had to have a person on the ground pull the slack off the hub so the rope wouldn't foul. 100 bucks from TSC. Specs say not to run it more than 5 minutes without cooling off but never had any trouble from it. I only needed it for one job and couldn't find one to rent.
