We had a 50 Meg pipe that was showing much slower download speeds and half of what we were supposed to get on upload. Our Cisco was mistakenly configured to auto negotiate which we corrected and that fixed the upload. We then found a router on our upstream's network which was also auto negotiating. They hard coded it and that took care of the download. From what I understand, with a pipe that size auto negotiate is the main problem. To show that this was truly the problem, I unplugged our network andplugged my laptop directly to my upstream. With auto on, the speed was half. When I hard coded it to full and 100 I was at 95% of quoted speed. I will find the test we were using because it showed duplex mismatch and other issues above our network.
