Or because we are rapidly arriving at a galactic alignment; a cyclical happening is upon us. On the winter equinox in 2012 we will be aligned with the disk which is the Milky Way, and which our solar system is a part. We will be half way through our 26,000 year galactic journey. Every type of event to visit the earth will happen again, in reverse order; ice ages, decline of species; all of it. Of course we won't be around to see most of it. I heard a scientist on the History channel say a super wave emanating from the center of the galaxy might sweep over us during that alignment. A resulting collapse of the magnetic field of the earth could trigger a series of calamities including immersing earth in sufficient energy to awaken the long sleeping super volcanoes.
