It is not a 2M.  It is a PicoStation2 HP.

The UniFi was not Airmax either.

The CPE are just regular laptops. The system is open with no encryption.

I feel like a total idiot trying to get this to work. I guess this explains why I only work with equipment outside, not inside. WAN not WLAN.

You need to match channel size, wireless encryption and airmax to make it associate. Do you have a template of the CPE?
