The discs on launch day are likely just boot loaders. The boss says "ship
it" early so they can get the best price on the DVDs. It doesn't matter if
it is done or not. And remember the guys coding and testing this stuff have
GigE at both their office and at their homes. They may not even know some
people have bandwidth restrictions. They see 1 Mbps and assume that is a
typo and really means 1 Gbps.

For MMOs I can see. For a racing game, no. The graphics are the bulk of
data so I wonder what the update includes.

Have you played a game in the past few years? It's not atypical for there to
be 20 - 30 gigabyes on the disc and updates to be several gigs. I know that
and I've played like one game in the past year.

Communications is way far behind of where it should be.

A 6 gig update? Is the game even on the disk you buy?

I was working with a customer last Wednesday who was complaining about
speeds. He is in an area that I am only able to offer 3 down & 1.5 up.
Anyways when I pulled his connection he was streaming the full 3 meg. I had
him power off the XBox and it flat lined. Then he plugged it back in and
without turning it on it acquired a wireless lease from the router and
continued to pound the internet connection. I am just hoping that it was
doing an update or something. Otherwise it could cripple a lot of links for
some customers.
