Subject: Re: [WISPA] Rugged Fiber Jumpers for Tower Install

Chris,

For the “patch” between the top cabinet and the radio we use OCC’s Ultra-Fox 2
tactical fiber. While not “armored” per say, it is really tough stuff designed
for very harsh military environments. Be advised that the OCC web site is
designed to trap you in the maze never to let go of you or the information you
are looking for. I still can’t find the products we use. LOL. Look here for
an idea of how the fiber strands are constructed:
http://www.smpdata.com/main/index.php?m=3&p=25&l=en. Note they call the
“Ultra-Fox 2” cable by the name “Ultra-Fox Plus”. Or maybe the “2” has been
replaced by the “Plus”—I can’t figure it out. As far as I can tell it is the
same thing but marketing and production refuse to communicate. Where it really
gets confusing is when then build cables using the Ultra-Fox 2 tactical fiber.
Then they get different names. I think it becomes their B-Series Mil-Tac
cable. Of course there are MANY part numbers given the mode and strand count,
etc., etc. In the past we have used OCC part number B-002CAST5KM which is a 2
strand multi-mode breakout cable using the Ultra-Fox 2/Plus fiber. The only
downside I can find is that this Ultra-Fox 2 cable is *very* flexible. This
makes horizontal runs look a little messy because it droops between each place
you secure it. We use 3M electrical tape every 12 inches backed up with a
loose plastic zip tie to hold it to another cable.

I highly recommend: Brent Coleman of GDT Manufacturing in Dallas TX at (214)
857-6262. We purchased from him recently and will do so again. Tell him I
sent you and have him look up our order so he has some place to start. I don’t
know which OEM part numbers we ended up using for the tactical jumpers but it
said Ultra-Fox 2 on the jacket when it arrived.

Subject: [WISPA] Rugged Fiber Jumpers for Tower Install

We are doing a tower install where we will run a 12ct fiber from base cabinet
to a cabinet at top. I need a rugged patch cable to connect from the SFP in the
radio to the cabinet, armored and a UV stable jacket seem necessary. Not
finding much by google searching. Any suggestions?
