BUILDING A NETWORK TAKES TIME AND ENERGY, WE ARE THE TEAM FOR THE JOB!
------------------------------------------------------------
Over the past month your PeakeNet Broadband team has continued to work hard
building the best rural broadband network that Southern Maryland has ever seen.
Hi, this is Dan Thompson, CTO of PeakeNet Broadband.
Our team wanted to give you an update on our progress to bring high speed
broadband internet to Southern Maryland. During the month of November we were
able to accomplish many things including establishing our internet presence in
La Plata, as well as meeting with investors and community leaders to ensure
success. We have also revised and set our goals for December and the new year.
We hope what is shared below will demonstrate our dedication to bring internet
to our community in a way that is well planned, customer minded, and organized.
** November 2017
------------------------------------------------------------
During November we connected hardware to essential vertical assets including
our central location at the hospital in La Plata, hired new staff and interns,
met with potential investors and community leaders, further outlined our
network’s vertical assets, and brought us within days of connecting other
vertical assets. Connecting our server and radios to the fiber line in La
Plata was our first major accomplishment in November, it involved running fiber
from the basement of the Hospital to the roof, accurately positioning our large
radios, and troubleshooting with our partner organizations to make sure the
connection was done right the first time.
We also brought on board some new staff including our marketing and
administrative director Syanne Centeno and two interns Brandon and Noah, who
will work with our network engineer on installing hardware, and network
management.

By mid-November we received our IP addresses and completed the provisioning
process. We then connected PeakeNet internet to our office. Concurrently,
throughout the month of November we met with excellent local business leaders
who are interested in being apart of our Series A round of fundraising. While
we are still looking for other interested investors, we are excited about the
meetings we have had already and look forward to finishing up the Series A
round of fundraising soon.
Just last week we completed the installation of our equipment on the SMECO
headquarters tower in Hughesville. We worked with an excellent team of tower
climbers and SMECO staff to make this happen. This radio will help us reach
our neighbors in eastern Charles County and Western Calvert county. We also
spoke with the Calvert County water department to ask for a contract that would
allow us to connect our radios to their water towers. We are in final
negotiations to use a water tower to bring service to Mallard Point Road,
Huntington, Adelina, and other areas of Western Calvert county.
One of our next tower assets will be the tower in Nanjemoy owned by American
Tower, we have worked diligently with their engineers and are days away from
completing the planning process needed to install hardware in Nanjemoy. We had
the pleasure of meeting with the St. Mary’s County EDC office and selected
elevation points throughout St. Mary’s county that will allow us to connect
customers there. It is has been a full and exciting month, one filled with
many victories, and we know the best is yet to come.
** December 2017
------------------------------------------------------------
As we close out the month of November and move into December, we wanted to
share with your our “to-do” list for December and the new year. In early
December, we will place radios and other hardware on a tower in White Plains
and start providing internet to buildings nearby. We will also build upon our
SMECO tower link, connecting it to western Calvert County and Benedict. We
will place radios on a tower in Pomfret and St. Mary’s as well.
Our Series A fundraising will close during December, providing us with funding
and strategic partnerships to increase our rate of expansion. Our smaller
elevation points for key communities will be designed and installed, while we
directly install to homes that the tower connections can reach on their own.
By the beginning of 2018, we will be searching for key staff positions
including a head of operations, head of sales, and additional home/business
installers. The new year will also be a time in which we plan to connect
several customers each business day. We will continue to place radios on
needed vertical assets and look forward to seeing happy connected customers,
enjoying what the internet has to offer.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, or comments. For additional
pictures and video of the work we are doing, be sure to keep up with our
progress on social media. Thank you for your continued support and
encouragement as we work to bring you the internet you deserve.
