Microwave klystrons generate a broad band of noise, inc. 2.4ghz. Not much u can do
except suffer through the microwave timing. If u can't stand it, get 802.1a, 5 GHz
system. watch www.atamti.com for future descriptions of such. Still under construction.

Subject: [wirelesslan] Microwave ovens and WLANs

Hello.

I just sat FTPing some files to my mainframe yesterday over my 802.11b lan
and was to heat a cup of coffee. Immediately when the microwave relay was
switched on, signal strength dropped to less than 20% and the transfer
totally stopped.

Connection reset by peer

Upon further examination I have figured out that it IS the MW oven that
interferes. But what does this mean? That my oven is leaky and horribly
dangerous? It's a 5-year old Elektro-Helios. My computer is placed about 4m
from it, a wood wall in between.

Any tips on how to overcome this, if you can? I will try to change the
channel, of course... (running Ch9 now).

Best Regards
