Public payphone kiosks in Germany to become wireless surf-zones using Aptilo
s public WLAN solution

Germanys largest private payphone operator NWP plans rapid implementation
and expansion

Aptilo Networks has signed a lucrative deal with public payphone operator
NWP for the provision of public wireless LAN Internet access throughout
Germany. NWP, with its head offices in Hamburg, and some two thousand
payphones across the country, will shortly be upgrading their base to offer
wireless Internet via WLAN. Approximately 500 sites will be converted into
surf-zones during the year.

NWP has focussed its activity mainly on business sites and the travel
sectors, such as public transport companies, underground stations, airports
and train stations. By extending their offering of telecommunication
services to include high-speed wireless Internet access, NWP reaches a new
customer base who requires high speed reliable access whilst on the move.

We believe that surf-zones will soon have the same significance that
traditional public payphones had in the past. With our nationwide points of
presence, Wireless-LAN is the natural value-add-on, for both the end-user
and site owner and to complement our services with wireless Internet is a
relatively simple process. As billing is one of the key factors in
determining the success of the WLAN project we had to make sure we chose the
correct partner from the outset. With the Aptilo software, we are confident
that we have found the best solution available, offering; a flexible and
highly scaleable architecture which supports many different payment methods
and is proven in the marketplace, says Keith Gurden, NWPs Managing
Director in Germany.

For Aptilo this deal constitutes a two-pronged breakthrough: it is the
companys maiden deal in Germany and it is the first agreement to be based
on public payphones. Aptilos Service Management Platform for public WLAN
solutions is already being used in more then ten European countries.

NWPs operation in Germany is, I believe, just the start of a major trend.
As more people are using mobile phones, upgrading telephone kiosks to public
surf-zones makes good sense, says Paul Mikkelsen, Aptilos Head of Sales
and Marketing in Europe.
