Hi Aman,

  There are two bits allocated in the beacon frame
payload(in the capability info field) which say if the
device from which the beacon is broadcasted is ESS
capable( An AP) or IBSS capable( Adhoc network
station).

  Please look at Chapter 7 of the 802.11 spec for
furthur explianation
