Hi Vernon,

I think any card would work out fine. 
If you are using windows settings then all you would have to do is add
the wireless SSID to your prefered list of networks (generally second
tab on your wireless card properties window).

Then in the Advanced settings uncheck "Automatically connect to
non-prefered networks".

Windows automatically tries to connect to the networks on the prefered
list. So your laptops should work fine on different floors.
