Hi All,

New to the forum & hope that I will be able to share some things of
interest with the other members here, in the coming months. My
joining was at the
instigation of Bill Austin, so thanks Bill for pointing out the
existence of this Group.

I am currentyl working in Switzerland for an organisation called
WeRoam, where we are the market innovator regarding GSM / WiFi
convergance.

We have recently launched the first commercially available UMTS-GPRS-
WiFi Roaming service that authenticates via a data SIM card (USIM
for the technologists)& is integrated within three seperate dataa
cards : Option, Sony Ericsson & Novatel.

What is so exciting about this ? The user can now authenticate via
the IMSIE on the data card, similar to a voice session directly to
the Home Location Registry of his home GSM operator. As members of
the GSMA, WeRoam have the capability to provide real time billing
directly to the GSM operator in TAP format. The holy grail ?? In
this
case that International Roamed WLAN sessions can be produced as line
items on the bill.

This allows GSM's to sweat their assets, nominally, SIM card, HLR &
billing infrastructure without any heavy uplift or capital
investment in new platforms.

The service has been launched here with Orange CH, we have customers
in Israel & Russia launching on our platform & also one of the
largest GSMs will be launching a variant later this year.

Any parties interested in finding out more about this & how &
possibly why we do it, please feel free to contact me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

& If this has bored you to tears, don't blame me, blame Bill.

Kind regards

Paul
