I have been building this week creating my own dissector in Wireshark
1.0.4, successfully using VS2005 under Win XP Pro. No issues
whatsoever. You just have to adjust the makefile a little. Quite easy
to do.

Use VS2008; that's what is currently used for the Wireshark
Windows build.
AFAIK VS2008 should work AOK on Windows XP ald Windows XP is
certainly
OK for Wireshark development.
