By the way: the actual error message (on Windows)

  Unhandled exception at 0x685dc910 in wireshark.exe: 0xC0000005: Access
  violation reading location 0xbaadf00d.

Sounds like a reference using an unintialized pointer or something 
similar which may not be too hard to fix.
