I have done some research in this area and you can access these types of
data sources if the software packages are be built open enough to support
external connections to its datasource such as ODBC or even a direct
connection. Now as far as Cumulus or Portfolio, I do not know if their
datasources are proprietary or not. If they are proprietary, then they'd
probably have to write an ODBC driver for their software. If they are not
proprietary, chances are you could find ODBC drivers depending on the
database backend they use (access, omnis, etc.).
