You know, I have seen quite a number of messages like this on the list over
the year or so... People haven't rec'd messages, duplicate messages, blocks
of messages after none - all sorts of things have been accused of the list.
However I have never stopped receiving the mail at what seems to be the
correct time; nor have I ever rec'd duplicate emails, and apart from waking
up to a number of messages that have come in while I have been asleep I
have not received held up mail.
I used Netscape Messenger up until about 8 months ago when I switched to
Eudora Pro (which is powerful, fast and not buggy, very flexible and
directly configurable using the dos command line if you're into that sort
of thing). I don't get hit by worms acting on VB script, I don't have
incessant crashes, and I don't get any of these problems that people keep
talking about. (I am constantly amazed at the number of developers who have
to rebuild their email systems due to virus attack).
If my technology stuffs me around I change it, but if it works I stick to
it, as I don't have time to waste on screwing around with computers and
software which are supposed to work for me, not me for them (which is why I
mainly use Macs, but having said that, my Eudora's on a Win95 PC). Maybe
it's time to change mail progs, mail gateways, or ISPs? The list seems to
me to be fine and if it has ever experienced downtime it must have been for
only a short time 'coz I sure missed it.
just a thought
