Hi

The direct-dbms is not confined to simple selects where you now the pattern
and the results.
therefore it will not return the same way as a search action does.

a search action will place the column in the 0 (Zero) row of the returned
array

if you put this in the results html of a search action
<assign @@user$MyResults value="@@resultSet">
then you could get the column name by saying
@@user$MyResults[0,1] = Name of column 1 of the select statement

also you can reference the data by using the column name like so
@@user$MyResults[5,Name] = what's in the 5 row of the Name column

If you are looking for a little more functionality out of the Search Action
you can you custom column
by right-clicking on the column area and selecting custom action. you will
have to follow you database function in this area

for example:
(datepart(DataField,'month')) as MonthValue
is a custom field definition that will extract the month number out of a
datetime field

hope this helps

Subject: Witango-Talk: Getting Column Names

Hi List.

How do you get column names from a direct-dbms
action? Well, I got a free form query box and
I can display field data from any table but
I want to know if you can accomplish this
(displaying field names dynamically) with
direct-dbms action or any search action?

thank you.,.
